Liverpool FC eye return move for Peter Crouch

Peter Crouch

ROY HODGSON is contemplating a move to bring Peter Crouch back to Liverpool as he looks to ease the goalscoring burden on Fernando Torres.

Hodgson is keen to bolster his strikeforce given the only senior forwards on the Anfield books are Torres, who is currently recovering from an adductor injury, and young Frenchman David Ngog. Click here for our LFC updates on Twitter.

And Crouch has emerged as a leading target with Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp thought willing to part with the 29-year-old as he looks to raise funds to finance a bid for Aston Villa winger Ashley Young.

Crouch was signed by former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez from Southampton for £7million in July 2005 and scored 40 goals in 132 appearances – although 40 of those outings came as substitute – before heading to former club Portsmouth for £9m three years later before arriving at White Hart Lane.

Capturing Crouch would also increase Liverpool's quote of English players, although the striker may need some convincing given he originally departed Anfield in search of regular first-team football having lost his place for Torres.

However, one sticking point could be the fact Redknapp believes Crouch has increased in value since his £9m move to Tottenham a year ago, significantly higher than Liverpool's valuation of the player.

Liverpool could only make a move once funds are released by the expected sale of Javier Mascherano to Inter is finalised, with a formal bid expected once the Italians sell Mario Balotelli to Manchester City.
