March 2001 - Liverpool v Man Utd

Despite United already having another title pretty much in the bag, Liverpool tore into the reigning champions from the kick-off at a soggy Anfield and fifteen minutes in, Gerrard picked up a Robbie Fowler lay-off before advancing and arrowing a rising 25-yard yard past Fabian Barthez's despairing dive to set the Reds on the way to their first league double over the East Lancs rivals since 1978/79.

September 2001 - Germany v England

England couldn't have got off to a worse start in the vital World Cup qualifier against old foes Germany in Munich's Olimpiastadion when Carsten Jancker gave the hosts an early lead but, after the visitors levelled matters on the half-hour mark, Gerrard blasted them in front just before half-time with a cleverly-angled strike from the edge of the box after a right-wing cross had only been half cleared.

December 2004 - Liverpool v Olympiakos

Liverpool were four minutes away from Champions League elimination when Gerrard met Neil Mellor's perfectly-judged headed lay-off on the half-volley from 25-yards to save the Reds' European skins and send arch-Evertonian Andy Gray into paroxysms of joy and Liverpudlians into dreamland

May 2005 - AC Milan v Liverpool

Liverpool trailed Italian giants AC Milan by three goals to nil at half time in the European Cup final before Gerrard's well-placed header from John-Arne Riise left-wing cross flew past Dida to begin the Miracle of Istanbul and one of the most astonishing comebacks in football history
