Roy Hodgson to switch Liverpool FC side as big guns return for Manchester City showdown

LIVERPOOL manager Roy Hodgson will ring the changes tonight at Eastlands after rotating his resources in last Thursday’s 1-0 Europa League victory against Trabzonspor at Anfield.

Martin Skrtel, Glen Johnson, Steven Gerrard and Dirk Kuyt are expected to start having been rested in midweek, while Liverpool are hopeful Javier Mascherano will recover from a calf injury.

Hodgson will make a late decision on Daniel Agger, who suffered concussion in last week’s 1-1 home draw with Arsenal, and is contemplating a first start of the season for Fernando Torres.

“I have great faith Mascherano will be fit,” said the Liverpool manager. “He trained on Thursday and made a quicker recovery than we’d have thought. Agger is positive and is saying he is okay to play but I must take medical advice on that. Concussion is a serious injury.”

Joe Cole is serving the first of a three-match suspension following his red card against Arsenal.

Hodgson also believes Christian Poulsenis capable of appearing this evening.

“Poulsen is ready to play in the Premier League,” he said. “The opposition on Thursday was Premier League standard and I thought he played well considering how little match practice he has had.
