Academy football: Michael Ngoo double earns Liverpool under-18s a point at Aston Villa

TWO goals from striker Michael Ngoo saw Liverpool under-18s begin the new FA Premier Academy League campaign with a 2-2 draw with Aston Villa at Bodymoor Heath on Saturday.

But Rodolfo Borrell’s side will be disappointed not to have won the match after dominating for long periods and creating a host of chances.

The 17-year-old former Southend forward Ngoo was in fine form. He collected a cross from the lively Raheem Sterling, danced past a couple of defenders and the Villa keeper Calum Barrett to open the scoring.

Sterling saw a curled effort strike the post and was also denied by Barrett. Liverpool created numerous chances with Toni Silva seeing a shot cleared away from the line, Ngoo heading just wide and also being denied again by Barrett.

Villa equalised against the run of play when Daniel Devine headed home from the corner.

But Ngoo put Liverpool back in front before the break with a fine shot into the bottom corner.

Liverpool’s Matty Regan headed home from Krisztian Adorjan’s cross but the referee harshly ruled it out for a push.

Then late on Villa grabbed a second equaliser. Substitute Russ Barton headed home Sebastian Jenkins’ cross.

Liverpool will be looking to build on Saturday’s draw as they aim for a first win of the 2010-11 campaign in their first home match at the Kirkby Academy Bristol City.

LIVERPOOL UNDER-18s: Belford, Poor, McGiveron, Sama, Regan, Coady, Sterling, Roddan, Ngoo, Adorjan (Sumner), Silva.
