DIRK KUYT last night helped ensure Liverpool’s Europa League survival – then pledged his future to the club.
Kuyt’s 88th-minute goal clinched a 2-1 second-leg victory and 3-1 aggregate success for Roy Hodgson’s side in their qualifying play-off against Trabzonspor.
The Dutchman has been the subject of interest from Inter Milan with his agent, Rob Jansen, claiming to have held talks with the Italians this week.
But Kuyt has dismissed such speculation and said: “A lot of people have said a lot of things about my future. For me, it is at Liverpool. I like it here and I want to stay here and win things.”
Hodgson, who last night revealed a “tongue in cheek” Inter bid for Javier Mascherano, said: “There has been no offer for Dirk, Dirk is not for sale. We will see if that’s the end of it, but who knows – maybe tomorrow some agent will talk about some other player.”
An under-strength Liverpool, missing a raft of senior players, were within seven minutes of being taken to extra time when Giray Kacar turned a Glen Johnson cross into his own net for a precious away goal.
And a relieved Hodgson said: “We’ve achieved a victory against a team that are notoriously difficult to beat. Their home record is very, very good.
“It was important to win the game. I am hoping we have a strong squad this year, I think we’ll need it to play in the Premier League and Europa League.
“Many of these players didn’t play against Arsenal and City but did a good job and these games could be useful to give people a regular game some players might not get if we get a stable 11 that play in most of the matches.”
It was a difficult evening for the Anfield outfit, who saw their Turkish opponents level the tie with a fourth-minute goal from Teofilo Guttierez after Kuyt had lost possession cheaply.
But Hodgson said: “Dirk recovered well from his early mistake. Dirk is a player I’ve always said is an important part of my plans.
