Liverpool FC new signing Raul Meireles vows to repay the faith shown in him by manager Roy Hodgson

LIVERPOOL new signing Raul Meireles has vowed to repay the faith shown in him by manager Roy Hodgson.

The Portugal international has completed a £11.5million move from Porto and was at Anfield to watch yesterday's 1-0 victory over West Brom.

“Liverpool are an historic club and I am happy for the move,” he said.

“Roy Hodgson was key to me coming here because he worked so hard to get me.

“I hope the fans will one day remember me for my success at Liverpool.

“It has been a long time coming but finally I have achieved my dream of playing in England.”

The 27-year-old midfielder won four titles with Porto and has been capped 38 times by Portugal.

Meireles, who has signed a four-year contract at Anfield, played in all four of his country's matches at this summer's World Cup finals in South Afica.

He has been bought as a replacement for Javier Mascherano but insists he boasts diferent qualities.

“I am Meireles and not Mascherano and that will be clear to the fans,” he added.

“I hope one day the Liverpool fans will remember me for being successful.”
