MUM will be the word for Jamie Carragher at Anfield tomorrow, where proud mum Paula will watch her son for the first time in more than a decade.
Mrs Carragher’s last sighting of the Anfield icon in live match action was at the FA Youth Cup final of 1996.
But she will be a proud observer from the Directors’ Box tomorrow when Jamie – “It’s James to her,” he smiled – enjoys a well-earned testimonial match against neighbours Everton at Anfield (kick-off 2pm).
Despite being centre of attention tomorrow, however, Carragher is already looking at the long term prospects for Liverpool this season.
And he accepts the club’s best chance of silverware will probably come in the Cup competitions.
Liverpool slipped to their lowest Barclays Premier League finish – seventh – for a decade last season.
With increased pressure from big-spending Manchester City this campaign their priority has to be securing a place in the top four to get them back into the Champions League.
