Carragher 300
Garcia, Joe Cole and Nathan Eccleston netted the other goals for the Liverpool XI, for whom Steven Gerrard played the first 11 minutes despite having skippered England in their 4-0 Euro 2012 qualifying win over Bulgaria at Wembley the previous evening.
And Carragher thanked England coach Fabio Capello for allowing his Liverpool team-mate to take part.
“I have to say a big thank you to the people at the FA but I think it helped they won last night,” he said. “Steven is the best player I’ve ever played with so I’m delighted he was involved. England always have to do a warm-down the day after so that was his warm-down.”
Gerrard added: “Because I’m so close to Jamie, not just as a team-mate but as a friend, I wanted to be here to share it with him. I asked for permission to fly in and out and have a small cameo and he (Capello) was fine with it, although I’m sure his decision was based on beating Bulgaria 4-0.”
Everton manager David Moyes included former players Lee Carsley and Francis Jeffers in his starting line-up, while both sides gave opportunities to a host of youngsters during the second half.
Carragher, meanwhile, has reiterated he is confident of penning a new three-year contract in the coming weeks.
“I don’t think it has ever been in doubt,” said the centre-back. “The club has always been the most important thing and they will decide if they think I am good enough or not.
“I’m sure with the transfer window now closed maybe there is something we can sort out – I think it will take two minutes.
“I’ve always wanted to play for Liverpool for my whole career and I’m sure that will be the case.”
