Liverpool FC co-owners mean my job is damage limitation, says Roy Hodgson

ROY HODGSON admits his main job at Liverpool will be damage limitation until co-owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks leave the club.

And the manager admits he has no idea how Anfield life will change if and when new investors are found.

Hodgson has been pressed into a largely fire-fighting role since taking over from Rafael Benitez as Anfield manager in July.

Although forced into selling Javier Mascherano to Barcelona, the 62-year-old helped persuade influential pair Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard to stay at the club.

The future ownership of Liverpool has yet to be resolved despite a fortnight of intense speculation last month once again resulting in no proper bid materialising.

And Hodgson concedes his main task now is to keep the squad together until new owners take over the club and give him money to spend on new players.

“The club is up for sale and nobody knows what direction it will take if and when new owners are found,” said the Liverpool manager.

“A few years ago when the situation was far more stable, the money to buy new players was available.

“I hope the situation will change when the club is eventually sold and owners who are prepared to invest in the club come in.
