John Henry and Thomas Werner
LIVERPOOL supporters have told new owner John W Henry they want to have a greater say in helping shape the club’s future.
Henry, principal owner of New England Sports Ventures, and the group’s chairman Tom Werner met with a selection of supporters’ groups and MPs for the first time yesterday since their £300million takeover at Anfield.
And while unable to give any assurances on topics such as transfer budgets and plans for a new stadium, Henry believes the talks were a success while admitting the fans felt their voice wasn’t heard by previous owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.
“It was great to finally get to work,” said the NESV chief yesterday. “We met with supporters’ group. But we didn’t give any assurances.
“We are here to listen and to learn from them and we learned a lot today.
“I think the biggest issue was a sense of disenfranchisement and their sense of not being part of their own and that is what we discussed.
“This was a big first step today.”
