Kenny Dalglish should be Liverpool FC manager permanently, says Martin Skrtel

MARTIN SKRTEL has become the latest player to urge Liverpool to hand Kenny Dalglish the manager’s job on a permanent basis after revealing how the Scot has allowed the team to rediscover their confidence.

Dalglish has overseen a dramatic transformation in fortunes since replacing Roy Hodgson as manager in January, with Liverpool losing just two of 10 Premier League games to give themselves a chance of European qualification.

And Skrtel, who has been an ever-present in the top flight this season, believes Dalglish’s extensive experience as a player and a manager is making a difference within the squad.

“He knows how to take the pressure away and protect the squad,” said the centre-back.

“A lot has changed at the club recently, but the most important thing has been confidence. Kenny has given us that.

“With confidence in football you can achieve great things. Everybody is happy now, looking forward to every single training session, every match. If he gets a contract for a long time, I’ll be very happy. Every day he makes work interesting and enjoyable. We are winning games now. You can tell Kenny is a winner.”

Since the New Year, Skrtel has been courted by a number of clubs including Bundesliga side Wolfsburg.

But the Slovakia international sees no reason to leave Anfield, particularly given recent signings of the calibre of Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez.

“Why would I go anywhere else?” said Skrtel.

“I know I am at a huge club – one of the biggest in the world, with a history and a set of supporters that no other club can really match.
