Liverpool FC striker Andy Carroll is big threat to West Brom, warns Scott Carson

FORMER Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson has warned his current West Brom team-mates to beware of the Andy Carroll goal-threat at The Hawthorns tomorrow.

The six feet three inch centre-forward, renowned for his aerial ability, scored a stunning strike with his left foot for England in midweek.

And Carson warned: “Everyone thinks he’s a big target man really but I think he showed against Ghana on Tuesday, in the way he came short for the ball and was laying off short balls, that he’s got great feet.

“He showed his game is not all about people hanging the ball up to him to go and attack headers.

“He’s a top player so we’re going to have to be on our guard.

“He scored a great goal for England on Tuesday night, so he’ll be full of confidence and it’s going to be a difficult game, no question about it.

“Maybe the goal for Andy came at the wrong time from our point of view did but everyone knows he’s a handful and everyone knows his strengths.

“We’ve got to prepare for them and hopefully we can keep our own form going.”

Carson played a key role in Liverpool’s famous 2005 Champions League campaign, when he made only his third appearance in the quarter-final against Juventus, and still has a huge respect for the Reds.

But he has urged Albion to maintain their recent improved form.

He said: “Liverpool are a massive club and they will probably have all their top players back fit again.

“But we got a point against Arsenal and we’re on a decent run.

“If we can carry on our form from before the international break, then we’ve got to be in with a chance.”

Carroll was back at Melwood this week after his goalscoring heroics for England in midweek, and despite initial concern about the player’s continued rehabilitation from injury, Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish praised he England coaches for their handling of both Andy Carroll and Glen Johnson.
