Academy Football: Six of the best puts Liverpool under-18s firmly in the hunt for the title

A STUNNING 6-0 victory over Manchester United at the Kirkby Academy leaves Liverpool under-18s firmly on course for a title shoot-out with Everton.

Two first-half goals from Toni Silva, a double from substitute Michael Ngoo and others from the prolific Adam Morgan and Krisztian Adorjan secured a superb success for Rodolfo Borrell’s youngsters.

Liverpool are now just three points behind their Mersey rivals with two games in hand and a goal difference which is +12 better.

Silva got the ball rolling when he bamboozled United defender Sean McGinty before firing in a superb effort five minutes before the break.

The Portuguese striker added his and Liverpool’s second right on half-time when he beat three defenders before firing in another brilliant goal from the edge of the area.

On 68 minutes Morgan made it 3-0 when he scored in his 13th successive match, prodding home Craig Roddan’s cross.

Adorjan saw one effort saved by United keeper Joe Coll before the Hungarian forward made it 4-0 after 74 minutes firing in of the turn after Lewis Hatch’s shot had been blocked.

Two minutes later substitute Ngoo coolly finished following an excellent interchange with Sterling. And the former Southend striker added the sixth goal with four minutes, firing in from Roddan’s pass.

Liverpool have now scored 64 goals in just 23 Academy matches this season.

Coach Borrell said: “It was a very good performance and in general I’m quite happy because we kept up a very good level during the 90 minutes.

“It is a big result but we need to keep our feet on the ground and keep working.”

Liverpool travel to face West Brom tomorrow (kick-off 11am), before next Tuesday’s derby clash with Everton at Finch Farm (KO 11am).

LIVERPOOL UNDER-18s: Stephens, Rafferty, Smith, Sama, McGiveron, Roddan, Sterling, Hatch, Morgan (Walsh 75), Adorjan (Dunn 79), Silva (Ngoo 45). Subs: Belford, Poor.
