DIRK KUYT insists that he still harbours Premier League title winning ambitions at Anfield – and hopes to be at Liverpool long enough to realise those dreams.

The Dutchman who ended last season in the striking role he was originally signed by Rafael Benitez to fulfil, and responded with a flurry of goals, was in action for Holland against Brazil on Saturday.

On this occasion the scoreline was blank, but Kuyt revealed that he is already looking forward to the new domestic season.

“I still feel that I am at one of the top clubs in Europe,” he said.

“The goal is still to become champions and win trophies and I will try and help.

“I scored nine goals in my last 10 games and since January I’ve scored five goals for the Dutch national team.

“I feel good.”

Kuyt, who signed a new deal last season, added: “I signed up because I have faith in the club.

“Everything I noticed shows the ambitions are high.

“The appointment of Steve Clarke is one example – just a very good on the pitch coach – that sort of thing.”
