JORDAN HENDERSON will complete his big money move to Liverpool today to become manager Kenny Dalglish’s first signing of the summer.

The 20-year-old underwent a medical and thrashed out the personal terms at the club’s training base Melwood yesterday.

Liverpool agreed a £16m fee with Sunderland on Tuesday night before the England under-21 international travelled to Merseyside to rubber stamp the deal. But paperwork at the FA and Premier League prevented the deal from being completed last night.

Striker David Ngog was not directly involved in the transfer despite suggestions the Frenchman would be a £7m makeweight to help meet Sunderland’s £20m valuation of their homegrown talent.

Henderson wore a Liverpool training tracksuit as he was shown round the club’s training facilities by director of football Damien Comolli.

Impressed with Melwood, Henderson then jetted off to Denmark to join up with the rest of Stuart Pearce’s national squad as they prepare for Sunday’s European Championships opener against Spain.

Henderson does hold a full senior cap to his name after coach Fabio Capello rewarded his fine start to last season with a call-up to he squad for November’s friendly with France.

Sunderland sent Henderson to Merseyside with their blessing and a glowing reference.

Chairman Niall Quinn said: “Jordan is a credit to himself, his family and Sunderland’s academy and everyone here wishes him the very best for the future.

“I am pleased that we got the deal to a level that we felt was right for our club.

“We know the areas that need strengthening and the type of player we need in order to progress and the job of bringing those players to the club is continuing at a pace.”
