NEW glasses, new vision. Kenny Dalglish was sporting a tasteful pair of spectacles as he oversaw the first outing of his refashioned Liverpool FC team.

In the stifling heat and humidity of China, LFC began their pre-season preparations with a surprisingly entertaining victory against local side Guangdong Sunray Cave.

With new signing Charlie Adam making his bow, Dalglish’s side gave their loyal Asian supporters a signpost for the future during a worthwhile workout against their second tier opponents.

Adam emerged at half-time and took only seconds to prompt purrs from the locals with a raking diagonal pass in search of Andy Carroll.

It was an encouraging first impression and typical of his performance, the former Blackpool man clearly in no mood to waste time making his mark having waited six months for his dream move to Anfield to come to fruition.

Adam was the focal point of an evening that, in terms of off-field activities, proved the lengthy trip to the other side of the world has thus far been justified.

As a public relations exercise, Liverpool’s first-ever visit to China – where they have an estimated 60 million supporters – has been an unqualified success, with the tour now heading south to Malaysia to prepare for Saturday’s friendly against a select XI.

On the pitch, what in reality was a glorified training session provided decent value for those inside the Guangdong Provincial People's Stadium and some food for thought for Dalglish.

With the likes of skipper Steven Gerrard, £20m new boy Jordan Henderson, Glen Johnson, Lucas Leiva and Luis Suarez all absent, Liverpool’s preparations will only truly begin to take shape nearer the Premier League kick-off next month.

Indeed, there is a chance many of the starting line-up last night will not be in the reckoning come the Anfield opener against Sunderland on August 13.

Youngsters Peter Gulacsi, Danny Wilson, Jonjo Shelvey and Dani Pacheco have all been mooted for possible loan moves while speculation increases that Christian Poulsen, Joe Cole and David Ngog may be moved on during the transfer window.

Nevertheless, the latter three all played an integral part as Liverpool highlighted the gulf in class between the two teams by taking control with two goals inside three minutes midway through the first half.
