Blood Red: Liverpool FC must be bold on capital mission to end Arsenal barren streak

ELEVEN and a half years have passed since Steven Gerrard sent Titi Camara scampering through to fire past David Seaman for the winner at Highbury.

It remains the last time Liverpool tasted victory away to Arsenal and that’s a statistic that needs to be put right.

The new season may only be seven days old but there is no escaping the feeling that today’s clash at the Emirates Stadium could have major repercussions for the months ahead.

There’s a good reason why Liverpool haven’t beaten the Gunners on their own turf in 14 attempts.

Arsene Wenger’s men have spent most of the last decade competing for the big prizes.

They’ve had a side packed full of talent and Liverpool have struggled to contain them.

When Liverpool clinched a point at the Emirates back in April it felt like a victory. It was a defiant backs to the wall job with a depleted side which was rewarded with Dirk Kuyt’s last-gasp equaliser.

But times have changed and a point today won’t provoke the same kind of wild celebrations in the away end.
