JAMIE CARRAGHER believes Liverpool have the opportunity to lay down a Premier League marker after ending their Emirates hoodoo.
Kenny Dalglish’s side secured their first-ever win at Arsenal’s home with a deserved 2-0 win over the 10-man Gunners on Saturday.
It was the perfect response to Liverpool’s disappointing opening-day draw at home to Sunderland and continued Dalglish’s impressive record against last season’s top four, with Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City having previously been beaten since his return as manager in January.
And while mindful to ensure expectations remain in check, Carragher admits the victory has sent out an ominous message to the rest of the top flight
“This was a big game for us and a big result,” said the centre-back.
“It may make some people sit up and take notice and think this Liverpool team could maybe do things this season. Time will tell. It’s up to others how they take the result.
“The challenge now is to build on this. It’s a chance to put down a marker. This win has put us in a good position.
“I was aware of how we started last season.
