Liverpool FC make move to sign Uruguayan defender Sebastian Coates ahead of Carling Cup tie at Exeter

Sebastian Coates

LIVERPOOL FC have made an £8million bid for Uruguay international Sebastian Coates as Kenny Dalglish looks to bolster his centre-back options.

LFC has targeted 20-year-old Coates after Sotirios Kyrgiakos was this week allowed to depart for Bundesliga side Wolfsburg.

Sebastian Coates plays for Nacional in his homeland and has attracted interest from a clutch of European clubs after being named Best Young Player when helping Uruguay win the recent Copa America.

And Liverpool FC have jumped ahead of Premier League rivals Manchester City by making an offer for the player.

Coates will make a decision on his future in the coming days, and said yesterday: “This week I will talk about offers and decide whether to go or stay here.”

Liverpool’s interest in Birmingham City centre-back Scott Dann has waned while Bolton Wanderers have slapped a prohibitive price tag on England international Gary Cahill.

Plenty of movement is expected both in and out of Anfield before the transfer window shuts next Wednesday with Dalglish, whose side travel to Exeter City in the Carling Cup second round this evening, finalising his squad strengthening.

Queens Park Rangers, who are already contemplating a loan move for Joe Cole, may also take Philipp Degen on trial with a view to a transfer.

AC Milan are chasing Alberto Aquilani, Bolton are confident of sealing a deal for David Ngog while Christian Poulsen, Brad Jones and Emiliano Insua may also depart.
