King Kenny Dalglish 300
KENNY DALGLISH insists Tottenham Hotspur will not be suffering weary legs when they return from Greece to face Liverpool FC.
The Anfield side go to White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon (1.30pm) with Dalglish warning against any notion that Spurs will be feeling the strains of last night’s trip to PAOK Salonika.
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has attracted criticism for leaving 10 of the players who started against Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend, in the capital.
As nine senior players sit injured on the sidelines and the arrival of Liverpool weighing on his mind, Redknapp has taken the decision to kick-off their Europa League Group A campaign by making a raft of changes.
Some have called Redknapp’s decision as showing contempt for the competition but how Spurs deem fit to approach the competition matters little Dalglish.
All the Liverpool manager knows is that the London side will have all their senior players rested and ready for Sunday.
“Spurs are only taking one player from their last game so they are going to be at their strongest on Sunday,” said Dalglish.
“Harry has done a fantastic job there, they are very exciting and attacking team. They had a fantastic year when they got into the Champions League and maybe getting there acted against them getting back in last season, when they finished fifth just a spot away. We know what Spurs stand for, what Harry stands for and what type of game we are in for. It will be a good game.
“There’s only one of Harry’s players gone over. Apart from one player, both sides are equal so nobody is getting any benefit of being in or out of Europe.
“It depends on what kind of team you want to put out, each team will see the importance of it in their own way. For us, we want to do as well as we possibly can in every game we play in. We’ll try and win every competition we are in. If we were in the Europa League, we’d be putting out a strong team.
“They have got quality players right throughout the whole team. There’s not going to be a team in the Premiership that hasn’t got some quality in it. Spurs maybe have strengths in different areas to others but they have Adebayor and Defoe and Bale’s a decent player. But I don’t think we’re too bad either.”
Spurs’ 2-0 win at Wolves opened their Premier League account after heavy defeats against Manchester United and Manchester City.
