Luis Suarez and Patrice Evra
LUIS SUAREZ has vehemently denied racially abusing Patrice Evra as the Football Association prepare to interview the Manchester United player.
Suarez is facing an FA probe after Evra told media in his native France that the Uruguayan international directed racist insults at him during Saturday’s 1-1 Premier League draw at Anfield.
The authorities have asked for a meeting with Evra to discuss the allegations, after which Suarez will be called to give an explanation should the United full-back chose to pursue the matter.
But Suarez said yesterday: “I’m upset by the accusations of racism.
“I can only say that I have always respected and respect everybody.
“We are all the same. I go to the field with the maximum illusion of a little child who enjoys what he does, not to create conflicts.”
The player has received the full backing of Liverpool, for whom a spokesperson said yesterday: “Luis is adamant that he has not used language of that nature and the club is totally supportive of the player.”
Evra had claimed: “There are cameras, you can see him say a certain word to me at least 10 times. No place for that in 2011. The referee is aware of what was said. He was trying to wind me up.”
