Pepe Reina 300
LIVERPOOL FC goalkeeper Pepe Reina has warned England there will be nothing friendly when Spain visit Wembley for Saturday’s showpiece international.
In contrast to Fabio Capello’s experimental selection, the reigning World and European Champions this week named a full-strength squad ahead of the fixture.
While England stumbled across the finishing line for qualification to Euro 2012 last month, Spain secured their place in next summer’s finals by winning all eight qualifiers.
Reina is one of several players in Vicente del Bosque’s squad to play or have played in English football.
And the Liverpool goalkeeper said: “There is no such thing as a friendly these days. When you go away with your national team you always want to win.
“For those of us who play our club football in England, this is a very special game.”
The form of the Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas has meant Reina has been limited to just 23 appearances for his country since making his debut in August 2005.
But the Liverpool keeper is expected to figure at some point with Spain back at Wembley for the first time since their Euro 96 quarter-final defeat at the old stadium.
“I hope to play some part of the game,” said Reina, who played one match in Spain’s triumph at Euro 2008 but did not get on the field for the World Cup in South Africa two years later.
“The international team has 23 very important players for our clubs but only 11 can start.
“So we have to take that role when it comes along if you are lucky enough to be there.
