Liverpool FC manager Kenny Dalglish: This proves we’re a better team

Maxi Rodriguez is congratulated for scoring Liverpool FC's first goal against Chelsea

DELIGHTED Kenny Dalglish believes Liverpool FC’s dramatic win at Chelsea proves they are a better team than last season.

Glen Johnson netted an 87th-minute winner against his former club to give Dalglish’s Liverpool FC men a 2-1 win at their bitter London rivals yesterday.

Maxi Rodriguez had earlier given LFC a deserved half-time lead only for Chelsea to respond with a strong showing after the interval with Daniel Sturridge equalising on 55 minutes.

Liverpool’s triumph ensured back-to-back league wins at Stamford Bridge for the first time since the 1974-75 season and moved them level on points with capital trio Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal in the race for Champions League qualification.

And Dalglish, whose team have extended their unbeaten run to nine games, believes it was a more impressive triumph than the 1-0 win here in February.

“We had a disappointing result and performance at Tottenham this season,” said the Liverpool manager. “We deserved more than what we got at Stoke. But we’ve kept the players going, kept them ticking over.

“I don’t think we’ve done anything different. I thought we played better (than last year here). We scored twice as many goals. I thought we just played better.

“We looked a better team, especially in the first half. Last year it was pretty defensive. This year, we stood up and stood against them.”

Liverpool’s win was their fifth in succession away from home – their best such sequence in more than five years.
