LIVERPOOL FC will wait before making their next move after both they and Luis Suarez were charged by the Football Association in the wake of the controversial defeat at Fulham on Monday.
The Anfield outfit have been charged with failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion following the dismissal of Jay Spearing.
And Liverpool FC striker Suarez has been charged with improper conduct in relation to an alleged gesture made towards Fulham supporters at the end of the fixture.
Liverpool FC were furious with the decision by referee Kevin Friend to contentiously dismiss Spearing following a challenge on Mousa Dembele 18 minutes before the end of the 1-0 loss at Craven Cottage.
Spearing clearly won the ball before catching Dembele on his follow through, with the FA frowning on the reaction of Liverpool’s players to surround the official after the red card had been brandished.
Suarez, barracked mercilessly by the Fulham fans for 90 minutes, responded as he left the field at full-time by raising his middle finger towards the home supporters, an action captured by photographers.
Both Liverpool and Suarez have until 4pm on Monday to respond to the charges, with the Uruguayan already facing a charge of using racist language towards Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.
A Liverpool statement said: “The club will take the appropriate time to properly review the documentation sent to us before making any further comment.”
There are precedents regarding the Suarez case. In 2007, Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole escaped censure after flicking a V-sign towards Arsenal supporters, while in 2010, Gary Neville also avoided a charge despite a middle-finger gesture towards Carlos Tevez following a Manchester derby.
More recently, however, Wayne Rooney was banned for two games in April after swearing into a television camera having scored in Manchester United’s win at West Ham United.
