Liverpool FC midfielder Jay Spearing faces race against time to convince Kenny Dalglish he doesn’t need another midfielder in January

JAY SPEARING admits he faces a race against time to persuade Kenny Dalglish he does not need further Liverpool Fc midfield reinforcements during the January transfer window.

Spearing has been earmarked as the most likely to fill the void left by Lucas Leiva being sidelined for the remainder of the season with a serious injury.

However, his efforts were immediately hampered by his controversial red card during Liverpool FC's defeat at Fulham last week.

Jordan Henderson deputised in last Saturday’s win over Queens Park Rangers and, with two games of his suspension still to serve, Spearing acknowledges he has to prove he can save Dalglish money in the New Year.

“The club is massive worldwide and the owners have come in and shown that they’re going to back the manager,” said the 23-year-old.

“A club the size of this is always going to attract big players.

“It has always been my dream to play week in, week out so it’s up to me to prove to the manager on a daily basis that when the transfer window does open and he has money at his disposal that he can look at a position like mine and think: ‘There’s no need to sign anyone there – we’re pretty strong’.”
