Liverpool FC manager Kenny Dalglish remains against standing at football grounds as SPL relaxes rules

KENNY DALGLISH has said Liverpool FC remain staunchly against plans to introduce safe standing areas in stadiums in England.

It was announced this week that Scottish Premier League clubs have been given the green light to pilot safe standing schemes in their stadiums.

The Taylor Report, which was published following the Hillsborough disaster in which 96 Liverpool FC fans died in 1989, recommended that all major stadia become all-seater.

And Dalglish said: “Our thoughts are still the same. We would prefer the all-seater stadium.

“I don't think there's any need for us to change our mind from what it was in 1989. I have the same position as it was then.”

Liverpool make the short journey to struggling Wigan Athletic this evening looking to secure a third success Premier League win and an eighth triumph in their last nine away games.

Liverpool will again be without Steven Gerrard as he recovers from an ankle infection, while Jamie Carragher is poised to remain on the bench with Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel having cemented their centre-back partnership.

Dalglish, though, envisages the pair as playing important roles during the second half of the campaign.

“They have played a few games, but you always say the strength of the club is how good the squad is,” said the Scot.

“When we have Jamie and Steven fit then we will be even stronger. We are looking forward to everyone being fit and then we have a problem picking the team.
