Liverpool FC: Kenny Dalglish left to rue another penalty miss

Kenny Dalglish

KENNY DALGLISH admits Liverpool FC must address their penalty problems after suffering another spot-kick shocker.

Charlie Adam became the fourth Liverpool FC player to miss from 12 yards when his effort was saved by Wigan Athletic’s Ali Al Habsi shortly after half-time at the DW Stadium last night.

It was one of several fine saves by the Latics goalkeeper as Dalglish’s men lost ground in the race for Champions League qualification by being held to a goalless draw.

Luis Suarez, Dirk Kuyt and Andy Carroll have previously missed from the spot this season, with Adam’s penalty at West Bromwich Albion remaining Liverpool’s only successful conversion.

And Dalglish said: “You are never cheering when you miss a penalty kick. That’s four we’ve missed now. But we must be doing something right if we keep being awarded them.

“If the opposition don’t put in goalkeepers, we might have more of a chance. But we could do with putting them away.”

While Liverpool have now lost only one of their last 15 games, the failure to score means they have scored just 20 times in 17 Premier League outings. Of last night’s game, Dalglish added: “We were not disappointed with the performance but we were disappointed not to come away with three points.
