KENNY DALGLISH celebrated the first anniversary of his return to the Liverpool FC hotseat this week.
And my verdict on the past 12 months is that he has done well, but there remains plenty of room for improvement.
I was one of those at the start of this season who didn’t think Liverpool FC would break into the Champions League qualification places because of the quality of the top four teams.
While Dalglish has improved the standard of the squad and of the starting XI, Liverpool will need to go again in the transfer market during the summer.
He has had a net spend of around £40m, which when trying to get into the top four isn’t exactly a fortune. Everyone throws Andy Carroll back at Dalglish, but I’m sure he would view the striker as his minus £15million transfer because of the departure of Fernando Torres.
Generally, his signings have done okay. But apart from Luis Suarez and Jose Enrique, he would want more from the rest, and there’s still a possibility that can happen.
Dalglish was without Steven Gerrard for much of the year, and he has been a big miss.
Certainly, with the six drawn home games this season, Liverpool may have won three with Gerrard in the team.
