WEMBLEY becomes Anfield South again on Sunday for Liverpool FC.
But it’s the fact venues further afield could be secured that should act as an incentive for Liverpool at the weekend.
Much has been made of the 16-year wait for a return to Wembley, and the chance to end six years without a trophy.
But arguably the most damaging blow, certainly in the short term, has been their absence from Europe this season.
Unlike some of their Premier League rivals, Liverpool want to be in Europe. It is in their DNA, a major part of the history and heritage of the club.
Only Real Madrid and AC Milan have won more European Cups, and how often are they not in Europe?
Victory over Cardiff City would guarantee at least a place in the Europa League and give Liverpool the freedom to have a serious crack at breaking back into the top four and Champions League qualification.
The first trophy is always the most difficult and Sunday represents a chance for Kenny Dalglish to realise two ambitions in one fell swoop.
Liverpool are clear favourites at Wembley, but rarely have the Anfield outfit been given an easy ride in cup finals.
Think back to West Ham United (twice), Alaves, Birmingham City and Wimbledon, all showpieces Liverpool were expected to win but either made hard work of it or failed altogether.
All eyes will be on Craig Bellamy, but it would be impossible for Luis Suarez not to be in the headlines once again – although this time it will be for the right reasons.
