KENNY DALGLISH believes his Liverpool FC squad have given themselves the opportunity to begin creating their own Anfield legend.
Dalglish’s men return to Wembley after a 16-year absence for the Carling Cup final against npower Championship side Cardiff City on Sunday.
It is Liverpool’s first final since the Champions League defeat to AC Milan in 2007, and is a debut showpiece for many of the squad expensively-assembled with the backing of Fenway Sports Group during the past 13 months.
While Dalglish reached a League Cup final and won the European Cup within a year of signing in 1977, he was stepping into to a team that were already champions home and abroad.
And the Liverpool manager believes his players deserve credit for their progress this season from a much more difficult starting point.
“We are not going to jump ahead of ourselves and take anything for granted,” said Dalglish. “It is going to be a really difficult game for us.
“But the players have given themselves a chance. They have got there and now we’ll have to see how they get on on Sunday.
