LUCAS LEIVA believes Liverpool FC are ready to halt their alarming slump and finish the season with a flourish.

The Brazil midfielder admits morale in Kenny Dalglish’s squad has been dented by a run of six defeats in seven Premier League games which has seen the Reds slip to eighth in the Premier League.

However, Lucas insists their struggles aren’t down to a lack of talent and he’s backing his team-mates to lift the fans’ spirits – starting with today’s clash with Aston Villa at Anfield.

“We have had other bad moments during my time here and we have always come through them,” Lucas said.

“I know we will do the same again.

“The fact we won the Carling Cup and are in the semi-finals of the FA Cup shows what this squad are capable of.

“The quality is here.

“It’s just a question of confidence.

“If the lads get some confidence back I’m sure we will finish the season on a high.

“There is still a lot to play for and we just need to all stick together – the players, the manager and the fans.

“I know all the players are desperate to do well and they will give everything to change things.”
