BRENDAN RODGERS will have “no qualms” throwing his youngsters into the deep as he prepares for his derby debut as Liverpool FC manager.
Rodgers’ side extended their improved run of form to just one defeat in six with a 1-0 Europa League win over Anzhi Makhachkala at Anfield on Thursday night.
Raheem Sterling and Suso, rested for midweek, could be recalled to join teenager Andre Wisdom in the starting line-up at Everton tomorrow for the 219th Merseyside derby.
And despite an anticipated hostile Goodison atmosphere, Rodgers would not think twice about keeping faith with his starlets.
“No qualms at all,” said the Northern Irishman. “They have shown already (they can handle it).
“I have got no fears because they have come in and been absolutely outstanding.
“Andre Wisdom can take on the world. He is built like a boxer, he is strong, quick and he won’t get beat.
“There is no problem there. For our longer term, they will have to sample these type of games.
“Our intent is to be competitive. We have got to compete. That is the nature of these games. You have got to earn the right to play football.”
With Joe Allen and Nuri Sahin also likely to be involved, Liverpool could have as many as five players – as well as the manager – making their debut in the derby tomorrow.
And Rodgers admits that while the outcome won’t shape his team’s season, it could act as a major confidence boost both for the team and individual players.
