BRENDAN RODGERS has put Daniel Sturridge to the top of his shopping list as he looks to bolster Liverpool FC’s attack in the January sales.

The Anfield outfit have already contacted Chelsea over a permanent deal for the England international in the New Year transfer window.

Rodgers has previously declared his intention to bring “two or three” new faces to Liverpool in attack having struggled for forward options this season.

The departure of Andy Carroll on loan to West Ham United, the failed deadline-day bid for Clint Dempsey and an injury to Fabio Borini has left Luis Suarez as the club’s only available senior striker for much of the campaign.

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner confirmed earlier this week the desire to reinforce the squad and that the club would learn from previous transfer mistakes.

And the Anfield side are determined to get business done as early as possible in the January window to avoid a repeat of the Dempsey situation.

Sturridge was among several names Rodgers considered before concentrating on Dempsey, who instead left Fulham for Tottenham Hotspur.

The 23-year-old has scored two goals in 12 appearances for Chelsea this season, but only two of those outings have been starts.

The forward, who is behind Fernando Torres in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, recently expressed his frustration at spending so much time on the bench.
