“I see myself as a  striker. I think I perform  best there because my attributes, I believe, are  best as a central striker.

“But I have played on  the wing and have  learned a lot doing so. I'd  never refuse to play in  that position and I've never demanded to play up  front, either.”

Of the opportunity to  play alongside Suarez,  Sturridge said: “To have  him as a teammate is  great. He's a very good  player, very talented and  rated as a one of the best  players in attacking positions in the world right  now. It's good to be part of  a team with him in and  I'm sure we'll be able to  play well together.

“With Luis, Raheem  (Sterling) and the other  players that are here, it's  going to be great for myself and I'm sure we'll  connect well together. We  all have similar attributes, so hopefully we'll be  able to create a few nightmares for defenders!”

Sturridge was ineligible for Wednesday’s  Premier League clash  against Sunderland and  could be made to wait for  his debut with Liverpool’s FA Cup third  round tie at non-League  Mansfield Town on  Sunday in danger of succumbing to the bad  weather.

The Conference side’s  home match against  Grimsby Town last Saturday was postponed due  to a waterlogged pitch  and, with the forecast  gloomy for the remainder  of the week, there are  fears the game could fall  foul of the elements.

Liverpool remain keen on re-signing their former winger Tom Ince from Blackpool, with Rodgers also tracking Paris Saint-Germain striker Kevin Gameiro.

The Anfield outfit will look to move on several players, with Joe Cole now attracting attention from former club West Ham United along with Queens Park Rangers.

And Nuri Sahin may also depart, with the Turkey international having grown frustrated at his lack of games since moving to Liverpool on a season-long loan from Real Madrid.

The loan can be cancelled should all three parties give their consent, with Fulham, Inter Milan and Sahin’s former club Borussia Dortmund all monitoring developments.

Fulham would need to agree a deal with Real over the player’s wages, but it is believed Sahin is willing to take a pay cut to guarantee regular football.
