Ian Doyle: Europa League could still be Brendan Rodgers’ salvation

THE Europa League has often been as unwelcome as a Findus Lasagne in the winner’s enclosure at Aintree.

But for Brendan Rodgers, the much-mocked competition may yet provide salvation.

While it’ll take a Herculean effort to overcome Zenit St Petersburg this week – especially with in-form Daniel Sturridge cup-tied – progress can give Liverpool genuine extra motivation for the final third of the season.

Otherwise, a scrap to finish above West Brom and Swansea awaits.

Mind you, stranger things have happened. Like finding beef in a burger.
