1. FA Youth Cup winner, May 1996

Just days after a grim FA Cup Final defeat to Manchester United, Jamie - alongside Michael Owen - is part of the mini-Reds side that helps put a smile back on Liverpudlian faces with a 4-1 FA Youth Cup Final aggregate win over a West Ham side featuring Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard.

2. First start and goal v Aston Villa, January 1997 (nominated by Seamy Gray and @mcon2010)

Handed a surprise first start due to an injury to Patrik Berger, Carragher marks his full debut, in centre midfield, by picking up a yellow card for clattering Andy Townsend after 22 seconds and then heading the opening goal five minutes after half time in a 3-0 Liverpool win that puts Roy Evans' side top of the league.

3. Scores winning penalty as Reds end trophy drought

With the penalty shoot-out to decide the Worthington Cup final against Birmingham City having gone to sudden death, some Liverpudlians are filled with trepidation as they see 21-year-old Jamie take a fast bowler's run-up almost to the halfway line. The fears are unfounded though as a firm side-foot despatchs the ball high into the net with Sander Westerveld's save from Andy Johnson subsequently sending silverware back to Anfield for the first time since 1995.

4. Defensive heroics as The Treble is secured

Now firmly established at left-back, the UEFA Cup semi-final against Barcelona sums up Carragher's sterling defensive contribution to Gerard Houllier's side. A constant presence in nullifying the Catalan's array of attacking talent, Carra marshals the troops to keep Rivaldo, Luis Enrique et al scoreless over two legs and ensure Gary McAllister's penalty is enough to send the Reds to Dortmund and what would be the final leg of an unprecedented Cup treble.

6. Keeping out Chelsea to reach Istanbul (nominated by @redphil12)

After helping keep an unlikely clean sheet in Turin to reach the European Cup semi-finals, Jamie again relentlessly throws himself into tackles and blocks to keep newly-crowned champions Chelsea at bay with Eidur Gudjohnsen's saying about his own late, heart-stopping chance to wreck the Anfield party, "I thought it was going in but it seemed Carragher cloned himself. 7 "Who's bigger than Liverpool?" (nominated by @marchull86, @brryjones and @fullrp)

Being interviewed ahead of the Champions League final against AC Milan, Sky Sport's Jeff Shreeves suggests that Jamie's performances in getting the Reds to Istanbul could get him to a move to a 'bigger' club than Liverpool. Carra's indignant response summed up the one-time Evertonian's passion for the club, saying "Who's bigger than Liverpool? I'm not having that. I've already got four or five medals here and I'm sure I'm going to win some more". He wasn't wrong.

8. Attacking thrust to set up the equaliser in Istanbul

Jamie's heroic defending in Istanbul will rightly be seen as the jewel in the crown of his career but his involvement in the Reds' sensational equaliser should not be overlooked. After two quickfire goals from Steven Gerrard and Vladimir Smicer had infused Rafa Benitez's side with belief to counter the despair of Milan's first-half three-goal advantage, Carra surged forward over the halfway to line before sending a slide-rule pass into the path of Milan Baros. The Czech's back-heel found the onrushing Steven Gerrard and, when Gennaro Gattuso checked his run in on goal, referee Manuel Enrique Mejuto Gonzalez gave the penalty to give Xabi Alonso the chance to complete the most astonishing six minutes in European football history.

9. Fighting off cramp to lead the Reds to European Cup glory (nominated by @jamesoleary123)

Carragher draws deep into his reserves of physical and mental strength to give what many seasoned observers reckon to be one of the all-time great defensive performances. Time and again, he repels the surges of Shevchenko, Kaka, Crespo and co with many observers wincing with him as he battles through crippling bouts of cramp to see the Reds through the gruelling 30 minutes of extra time.

10. Getting Jerzy Dudek to do a Bruce Grobbelaar

Ahead of the shoot out, Carragher collars Jerzy Dudek and implores the Reds goalkeeper to do everything in his power to put the Milan players off, invoking the legend of Bruce Grobbelaar and his wobbly legs in Rome back in 1984. It has the desired effect as three of Milan's penalties are missed or saved and Liverpool become European Champions for the fifth time.

11. Getting his hands on Old Big Ears with fellow Scouser Steven Gerrard (nominated by @asparrish)

Having briefly blacked out following Jerzy Dudek's final penalty save from Andrei Shevchenko, Jamie races to the Liverpool end to celebrate with family and friends before becoming the first player to grab the European Cup from Steven Gerrard after the Reds skipper lifted it to the Turkish skies.

12. Lifting the European Super Cup

Jamie becomes the third Scouser to lift a European trophy for Liverpool after skippering the side to a 3-2 Super Cup win over CSKA Moscow in Monaco.
