Marine off the mark

A TOWERING 49th-minute header from Peter Cumiskey earned Marine their first UniBond Premier League win this season.

Marine were indebted to Adam Farley for a first minute goal-line clearance before Prescot then came within inches of opening the scoring on 35 minutes when Darren Byers hit the inside of the post and rebound to safety.

Marine struggled to get any rhythm and apart from a Paul Woolcott shot that floated over.

Marine won the game when Cumiskey got on the end of a Darren Brookfield free-kick to power a header past Richie Mottram.

Kevin Towey then contrived to miss from no more than a yard out. With eight minutes to go Prescot thought they had equalised but the referee cut short their celebrations after spotting an infringement.
