Westwood and Bennett go out on loan

CHESTER centre-back Ashley Westwood has joined League One club Port Vale on loan until January, while midfielder Dean Bennett has moved to Blue Square National side Kidderminster for three months.

City chairman Stephen Vaughan said last night: “Neither player has figured in Bobby Williamson’s first team squad this season, and the moves will give them the opportunities to get regular football.

“We have a large squad at the club currently and obviously this means that certain players won’t be getting the regular football they naturally desire.”

Another player who could be moving away temporarily is defender Simon Marples, who is expected to agree to a loan move to Farsley Celtic today.

Defender Sean Hessey has been the subject of enquiries from Northwich and Droylsden, and the player will give a decision today.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper John Danby has signed an improved and extended contract. Last season’s player of the season has penned a deal until June 2009.

In another development yesterday, former Macclesfield striker, Colin Heath, who has been on trial at the Deva Stadium recently, has been told that the club won’t be offering him a contract.

Williamson has been pipped to the Coca-Cola League Two August Manager of the Month award. Williamson was narrowly beaten to the accolade by the Morecambe manager Sammy McIlroy.

Chester are next in action tomorrow when they travel to Yorkshire to face Rotherham United at Millmoor. City are currently second in the League Two table, while the Millers are three places lower.
