Cheshire Association: Greenalls show their credentials to go joint top

SURPRISE package in the Cheshire Building Society Cheshire Association League this season are Greenalls Padgate St Oswald’s who have caught up with Middlewich Town at the top of the First Division.

While Middlewich were surprisingly dropping a point in a 2-2 draw at Garswood United, Greenalls beat Gamesley 2-0 with well-taken goals by Rob Hawley and Tony Hennessey.

Managed by Ian Lomax and with a well-appointed ground at the Tetley Social Club, Warrington, Greenalls have taken 16 points from seven games and look capable of giving the reigning champions a run for their money.

Pilkington lie third a point behind the joint leaders with a game in hand after winning 3-1 at bottom team Poynton with goals from Graham Boylan (2) and Tony Scott. Poynton have yet to gain a point from six games, while Witton Albion Reserves are only one point better off after losing 2-1 to Styal at Wincham Park.

Newcomers FC United of Manchester Reserves continue to set the pace in Division Two, their sixth win in seven games being by 3-0 against bottom of the table Malpas at Gorton, when their marksmen were Martin Cosgrave (2) and Jamie Rother.

In second place are Club AZ, 3-2 winners against Eagle Sports, while Tarporley Vics continue to impress under new manager Steve Lloyd with a thrilling 3-3 draw at Broadheath.
