Lee powers brace of headers in Port win
MICHAEL POWELL continued his impressive goal-scoring sequence on Saturday, with Kevin Lee also scoring twice in Southport’s 3-2 victory at Haig Avenue.
The first goal came early on in the game as Tony Grey returned the ball back to Mark Duffy from his short corner, who hoisted over for Kevin Lee to head home at the back post.
Solihull rarely threatened, their only chance of note being as Carl Motteram had a half chance in a rare lapse of defensive concentration.
Southport doubled their lead just after the half hour as Duffy’s long throw found Powell in acres of space to blast home.
Just before the break, Danny Davidson pulled a goal back for the visitors as he ran inside the Southport box firing low beyond Richard Whiteside.
However, midway through the second half Lee climbed above the defence from Duffy’s free-kick, to head in from close range.
Solihull pegged back the scoreline at the end of the game as Tim Gould’s shot had to be pushed away for a corner which led to the ball being cleared to Leigh Downing blasted the ball through a crowd of players, beating the unsighted Whiteside.
