Linnets’s historic leap

RUNCORN Linnets take an historic step today when they play their first match in a full FA competition.

Steve Carragher’s men face Daisy Hill in the second qualifying round of the FA Vase at the Linnets’ temporary Witton Albion home.

Formed 18 months ago, winning promotion from the North West Counties League Second Division in May, they go into today’s game on the back of two league wins.

Formby look to maintain their form having won four of their last six matches – when they turn their attention to the Vase and a home game against Sheffield outfit Dinnington Town.

Also in Vase action are Bootle, who entertain Vodkat League Second Division rivals Padiham, Ashton Town visit Cheadle Town, and Ashton Athletic run to Congleton Town.

West Cheshire League representation is provided by Poulton Victoria, who visit Blackpool Mechanics, and Ashville, who travel to Oldham Town.

St Helens Town have the chance to climb off the bottom of the Vodkat First Division when they travel to Salford City in a rearranged game.

But Town face a tough test against the second-placed Manchester side, who have won six of their opening eight games.
