THE Cheshire Building Society Cheshire League expect a large crowd when they take on the Liverpool FA Premier League at Knutsford’s Manchester Road ground on Saturday in the first round of the FA National League Systems Cup (2.15pm).
The league won the competition in 2004-05 when they went on to represent England in the European Trophy, playing games in Slovakia and Croatia.
New leaders of the First Division are Greenall Padgate St Oswald’s thanks to a magnificent Rob Hanley hat-trick against Garswood United at Tetley Social Club. Their 3-0 victory takes Greenall to 19 points from nine games, two clear of Crosfields, who beat Trafford Reserves by a similar score. Crosfields’ marksmen were Lee Boardman (penalty), Neil Holden and Steve Saunders.
Another impressive victory in a truncated programme was recorded by Gamesley, who won 4-0 at Rylands with goals from Mike Dewhurst, Brian Arrowsmith, Brian Capper and Ryan Howe.
Division Two leaders FC United of Manchester Reserves lost their first game since entering the league, by 2-0 at Golborne Sports, but keep top place with 19 points from eight games. Tarporley Vics also went down for the first time, beaten 3-2 at home to Billinge, while Lostock Gralam were dumped at the foot of the table by a 4-0 home defeat at the hands of Congleton Town Reserves.
Clubs AZ won a Division Two Cup preliminary round tie by the odd goal in three at Whitchurch.
