Davenport’s desire

MANAGER Peter Davenport has urged his Southport players to build on their 5-0 hammering of Blue Square North strugglers Hucknall Town.

The Haig Avenue chief was delighted with third-placed Port’s demolition job last weekend which extended their unbeaten run to seven games, but he knows they face a testing couple of weeks.

Today’s FA Cup third qualifying round clash at Belper Town is followed by two more away trips as Port travel to Worcester and then leaders Harrogate in Blue Square North.

With Davenport desperate to enjoy a memorable cup run and get the club back into the Blue Square Premier it’s a crunch period.

He said: “Some of the movement and quality of our passing was excellent last week – it was probably the best we’ve played this season.

“Hucknall aren’t a bad team so we’ve got to maintain our standards now and we want more of the same.”
