SKELMERSDALE United got off to a flier in the third minute of this UniBond League First Division game when Adam Birchall headed home from a long throw.
Martin Allison equalised against the run of play in the 27th minute, when he drilled a low shot through a packed area.
United’s lead was restored just before the break. A great ball by Michael Duffy sailed over the Mossley defence, and Craig Noone was first to the ball to guide it past Ashley Connor.
Lee Blackshaw hit a brace in a magical minute, as he headed home from the near post then the far post respectively.
Gareth Hamlet fired what was effectively the winner in the 67th minute, and Michael White collected a consolation goal for Skelmersdale deep into injury time as he headed home Sean McConville’s cross.
This was a great advert for non-League football but it didn’t really tell the true story – as both teams could’ve doubled their figures.
SKELMERSDALE: McMahon, Duffy, Bowen, Akrigg, White, Holland, Birchall, Turner, Eaton, Donnelly, Noone (McConville 73) Subs: Foster, Hardwick.
