Non-League: Northwich Victoria 0, Exeter 0

FOR what may turn out to be their very last game Vics included two new signings in this Blue Square Premier with Danny Williams taking up a wide position in midfield while Scott Tynan took over in goal.

Vics set about in earnest trying to secure their first league win of the season and they played with some real purpose that belied their lowly league position.

After seven minutes an excellent move involving Chris Williams, Danny Williams and Richard Battersby ended with the latter’s effort being well saved by the visiting keeper Andy Marriott.

The game developed into a midfield battle with neither side creating too many chances.

Although Lee Elam did head over the bar when well placed to open the scoring for Exeter after 23 minutes.

Before Kevin Townson went close for Vics when his chip from the edge of the 18-yard area just cleared the bar.

The second half was a much better spectacle and either side could have won the game as Lee Steele missed a couple of chances for Vics while for Exeter Adam Stansfield missed a sitter and Richard Logan had a good effort cleared off the line in the last minute by Ryan Brown.

A draw was a fair result and as the presence of the experienced goalkeeper, Scott Tynan, noticeably lifted the whole team it was fitting that he rightly claimed the man of the match award as Northwich secured their first clean sheet of the season.
