Boro fail to break Dock in thrilling cup cracker

IN the County FA cups which dominated the weekend’s fixtures, it was a narrow escape for Challenge Cup holders Waterloo Dock as they squeezed past South Sefton Boro 3-2.

Tony Denson, Anthony Battle and Mike Lundon netted for Dock, with Simon Hughes and John Maguire replying.

Cheshire Lines made easy work of Warrington Town Res, beating them 4-0, Calum Holmes with two.

East Villa, leaders of the Premier League, overcame a strong challenge from Ford Motors but Paul McGuinness and Franny McIntosh settled the issue.

Aigburth PH were 1-0 losers at Greenalls Padgate, against league form. Likewise, at Mackets Grenadier as they beat St Aloysius of the division above them to record a 3-2 win after extra time. Willy Taylor, Mike Foott and Tony Askew netted the vital goals while St Aloysius scored through John Donachie and Jamie Henders.

NELTC easily defeated Moorfields 3-0, through Dave O’Leary (2) and Mark Tyrer.

Old Xaverians celebrated a 6-0 demolition of Lucas Sports, with Carl Gargan and Matty Williams getting a brace apiece.

Birchfield had a tremendous away win at Pilkingtons, winning 2-1, to progress,

South Liverpool were involved in probably the most exciting game of the day against Marine Res, going into extra time at 5-5, with Marine victorious 7-6 on penalties.

Speke cruised to a 6-1 win over Ashton Town, Paul Mutch with a pair and Danny Scott finding the net again.

St Dominics were victors against Collegiate OB by 4-2, James Croxton (2).

North Sefton may be struggling in Division One, but they pulled out the stops to beat Vulcan 3-2 away in a great result for Robbie Whites’ team. Paul Finnan bagged another two goals

REMYCA were left to rue an extra time 2-1 reverse at Whiston Cross, Gary Lloyd with the only goal for REMYCA.

In the Junior Cup, it was a mixed bag for the league.

Northern Telecoms received a bye as Clockface Miners failed to show.

Edge Hill BCOB put up a brave show at Billinge but went down 2-1, Brian Burdett with the goal for Edge Hill. Liobians could not find the net either, going down against Halsall 1-0.

The Angus Village are under pressure as their league form continued in the Cup, losing 2-0 at Halton Borough.

But Bankfield saw off a strong challenge from Manweb to go through 3-2.
