Easton: Win was vital to get back on track

MO MARLEY’S Everton Ladies had only played two previous league games and were in the need for points after a draw against Birmingham.

They gave themselves the best possible start as Fara Williams converted a penalty on 20 minutes, although she had to take it again after some encroaching in the area.

Dowie then who converted the second with a neat finish three minutes later, latching on to Rachel Unitt’s ball.

Doncaster scored in the third minute of injury time when Veronica Cantors smashed in a free-kick but it proved mere consolation.

“It was an important game for us,” said full-back Becky Easton. “We’ve had a few injuries lately and were down to the bare 11.

“It’s always a tough game against Doncaster, so it was a very important game for us to get three points.

“We’ve been champing at the bit to get some games played so to get early goals was good for us.

“The game against Sunderland at the weekend is a game we should win.

“It’s nice to be in the quarter-finals of the League Cup as well. It’s a cup we’ve never won so it would be nice to win it.”

Everton’s game with Sunderland in the quarter-finals takes place at Marine on Saturday, kick-off 2pm.

Liverpool are in cup action at Blackburn, also hoping to seal a semi-final place.

Sunday sees the start of the Liverpool Senior Cup in its preliminary stage. Dingle host Liverpool University and Hope University take on Paris.
