PETER DAVENPORT will be reunited with an old friend when his Southport side entertain Tamworth at Haig Avenue in Blue Square North today.
The Sandgrounders chief is relishing the chance to go head to head with his former Nottingham Forest team-mate Gary Mills.
He said: “We normally meet up at legends tournaments when we play in the Forest team together alongside the likes of Nigel Clough and Gary Birtles. I’m looking forward to seeing Gary again and it’s a big game for us.”
Both clubs were relegated from Conference Premier last season but the Lambs have struggled to adapt to life in the lower division. Mills’ side endured a poor start to the campaign but they have picked up in recent weeks and went seven games unbeaten in all competitions prior to last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at Burton in the FA Cup.
Port will be hoping to get their promotion push back on track after league setbacks at Worcester and Harrogate were followed by a 3-1 home defeat against Northwich Victoria in the FA Cup last weekend.
Winger Jerome Watt (hamstring) is doubtful but Davenport is hopeful that on loan left-back Sean Newton will recover from a groin injury.
