Laird become latest victims as Goole press for promotion

SURPRISE promotion contenders Goole took the spoils in this UniBond League Division One South clash.

Laird had seemed to disregard their injury crisis by taking the game to the Vikings from the start with close calls for Anthony Sheehan and leading scorer Alex Hay.

Goole then started to assert themselves in midfield and went close twice themselves through Karl Rose and Duncan Bray but the half remained goalless despite the good play from both sides.

Laird seemed to have the ascendancy in the second period but the game was turned on its head eight minutes in when Dean Sidebottom took advantage of a mix up in the Lairds area to slot past Paul Whitfield.

Goole matched Laird’s strong play and doubled their advantage through Duncan Bray.

A last-minute strike from Alex Bishop was brilliantly saved by the home stopper giving Goole the victory which elevated them to third place behind Laird, who will be hoping for more meat in their game for the visit to Kirklands of Quorn FC this coming Saturday
