Mutch left reeling in rearguard changes

ALREADY forced into three changes from the previous week, Vauxhall manager Andy Mutch lost on-loan keeper Andrew Murphy the night before this Blue Square North game which disrupted the rearguard.

A thunderous shot from striker Paul Taylor was tipped over by Boston keeper Lee Crockett, before the same Motors player struck a shot against an upright. But on 23 minutes, the hosts took the lead when Ashley Nicholls headed home from close range when the Motors defence failed to deal with a cross.

Six minutes later, the visitors hit back, when Taylor played in Tom Field for the equaliser.

Boston regained the lead four minutes later when Jon Rowan headed home unchallenged.

And Jon Stephenson extended United’s lead from the penalty spot.

In the second half, Motors were thwarted by three fine saves by Crockett – two efforts from Taylor and one from substitute Dave Roberts from 20 yards, while deputy Motors keeper Steve Longrigg made two decent saves.

Ninety minutes were up when the Pilgrims went 4-1 up as Froggatt ended a neat move and deep into injury time, Nicholls struck his second to give the hosts a flattering scoreline.

VAUXHALL MOTORS: Longrigg, Brannan, Dames (Johnson 50), Field, Marsh-Evans, Hotte, Holmes, Smith (Clarke 72), Reed, Wright (Roberts 50), Taylor. Subs: Egerton, Wignall.
